Spring colors

Spring has arrived to my household early this year. The flowers sprouting forth endured one of the hottest summers and coolest cold snaps on record.

The first flowers to bloom are my Yellow Jasmine located next to my window. Last year I had thought they would bloom for a month or so, but now I know that is not the case! I’ll be lucky to see my Jasmine for a week or so making it critical to do macro photography ASAP…last I heard it was supposed to rain this Thursday! Lucky me!!!

My wife and I planted two Japanese Mock Oranges in our front yard garden. Unfortunately, one died during a snow storm that shall not be named. This Japanese Mock Orange has stolen the show by growing gangbusters. It’s supposed to flower…I think.

I don’t even know where to start when discussing my roses. They are…dying. The small leaves and super thorny branches is the hallmark signs of a disease. The roses don’t come out rosey no more.

And that is why I enjoy flower photography. Life, from my observations thus far, is as fragile no matter the life form.

This Fig Tree was a gift from my mother. The beautiful leaves which butterflies fluttered around in 2023 have all fallen from the latest round of cold snaps and to be honest, I thought my Fig Tree was dead. I am happy to report that I was wrong!

The BlackBerry Bush in my backyard is my favorite. Some of the best memories I have are of my wife picking fresh berries and serving them for breakfast – first round was so oh so bitter, but the subsequent round of berries just got sweeter and sweeter.

The Agave plants recovering in my greenhouse was a gift from a famous sculptor in Dallas. We literally drove to her house and we dug up her babies…her words…not mine…and that was that! I had three Agave plants and I fear one (directly below) and perhaps the other were the only survivors. We shall see.

Yucca plants below is another gift from my mother. These Yucca plants will actually be planted in my backyard which I have been excited to plan to plant around.
