Vacation photography for me is an extremely arduous affair. Forget about the preparation and preplanning involved prior to the visit; once you actually arrive at your location, factors like weather, driving conditions, and the ability to focus all come into play. But when you have a partner who can point out a Pileated Woodpecker on your path, or special holes in the fencing specially designed for photography, travel photography can be fun and effortless!
…and yes, I said that my wife discovered a Pileated Woodpecker before this birder had!

My wife and I finally made it to the Quechee Gorge located in the top northeastern tip of Vermont and a hop skip leap away from Canada!

I had no idea that would be birding out at the Gorge, but as I said earlier, my wife whispered to me that she thought she was seeing a turkey and then she said something about red sending me into complete birding mode!!!

We then ventured down to Woodstock Vermont as I had heard Woodstock was one of the most photogenic cities in all of Vermont. And hey! What can I say, these sources were spot on. If you want a wonderful place to stay with plenty of colonial vibe, Woodstock is the place for you…during the summer, that is.
